TERESA RAMIREZ

HOTELIER

OAXACA CITY, MEXICO

Teresa Ramirez is a teacher, an interior designer and the owner of Casa Antonieta. She is energized by the cultural richness of Oaxaca, the warmness of her mother Antonieta and the hard work of her father Fidel.

Even though Teresa was born and raised in Mexico City, she has always kept a close relationship to her Oaxacan roots: her mother had a house in Oaxaca City and from a really young age, she traveled with her father all over Oaxaca. This led her to develop fascination and respect for the diversity of its people, art and culture.

Early in her career she worked as an educator. Tere’s father, Fidel, founded the family Hotel Villa Sol in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. When he passed away, Teresa decided to continue with her father's vision and take over the business. Later on, her love and appreciation for indigenous textile art led her to study Interior Design, with the objective of collaborating with indigenous artists from Oaxaca.

Five years ago, Teresa decided to turn her mothers´ old house in Oaxaca City into a small hotel with her son Helwig. According to Teresa, Maria Antonieta was a full time mother to her five children, who always felt cared and loved. She remembers that family and friends used to love visiting her mother’s home, as they always felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Honoring her mother’s energy and legacy, Teresa and Helwig make sure Casa Antonieta embodies her mother´s values and virtues: A house with a strong feminine energy of warmth and love, where every visitor feels welcome and taken care of.
