We’re looking for a…

  • Wild Terrains is looking for a kind, driven, detail-obsessed people-person to lead 4-day trips in New Orleans, 2-4 times per year.

    YOU’RE A GOOD FIT IF

    • You are a natural caretaker of people

    • You like getting to know people

    • You’re a high achiever with a lot of energy

    • You are detail-obsessed and a perfectionist, but you don’t lose sight of the big picture

    • You are a team player and enjoy the feeling of working together. You like to go with the flow, and you consider yourself a peacemaker.

    • Your friends describe you as very reliable*.

    • You love teaching people about your culture and you like to be a bridge between people from different backgrounds.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

We pay a flat fee per trip that you lead, covering all of the work leading up to the trip, during the trip, and after the trip. Your responsibilities will include:

    Always

    • Uphold our code of conduct and operate with a team mindset. Wild Terrains is a positive, gender-affirming space for women everywhere. We welcome all ages, abilities, and bodies. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, ableism. Every woman can sit with us. No mean girl energy, no drama, no big egos; just good will, kindness, and hard work as a team.

    • Embody the Wild Terrains brand. Travelers will see you as the face of Wild Terrains, so it’s important that you share Wild Terrains’ brand values of kindness and inclusivity, and mission to promote and connect women.

    • Nurture partner relationships. You will recognize the value of our partner relationships and treat them with care and respect. You will work to nurture existing and new relationships with women doing amazing things in your country.

    Before trips

    • Meet with the Wild Terrains team. You will meet with our Head of Experiences for a briefing before each trip.

    • Communicate logistics to our partners. The Wild Terrains headquarters team provides all of this information to partners far in advance, but the trip leader plays a critical role in communicating final confirmations and last minute changes regarding headcount, dietary restrictions, and other fine-tuning details.

    • Communicate with travelers. You will begin communication with travelers several days before the trip begins, being available to them for questions and encouraging group formation in advance.

    During trips

    • Run the trip. You’ll host all events and lead the travelers through the itinerary, singlehandedly managing logistics on-the-ground, and ensuring that each trip operates on time and according to expectations. Each group is composed of 8-14 women travelers.

    • Create a welcoming and inclusive group dynamic. One of the trip leader’s most important responsibilities is to shape group dynamics so that all travelers feel included and welcome.

    • Be a conduit for connection. We like to say that leading a Wild Terrains trip is like hosting a week-long dinner party. As the host, your role is to help all guests—including travelers and partners—to come away from each experience with new connections and a sense of fulfillment.

    • Responsibly handle emergency situations. You will follow an emergency protocol when incidents occur, taking care of both the group and individual travelers during potentially stressful situations.

    • Problem-solve independently. Our team is very Type A and we work hard to plan well in advance, but there are always going to be things like weather and illness that are out of our control. When surprises come up, it will be your responsibility to devise and enact a Plan B that doesn’t break the budget and leaves travelers feeling happy and fulfilled

    • Manage difficult people. You may occasionally encounter a traveler who challenges your authority or our code of conduct, and you are comfortable following a protocol to avoid escalation and protect the experience of the entire group.

    • Report daily. You’ll perform light, daily administrative work to report to the Wild Terrains headquarters team regarding the status of the trip.

    • Be available to travelers beyond the itinerary. During free time and overnight, you are the travelers’ on-the-ground resource. If they need help going to a pharmacy, finding a doctor, they get lost, etc. you will be available for them to reach you.

    After and in between trips

    • Closing communication. After the trip, you will send communication to travelers inviting them to leave reviews and provide feedback.

    • Submit reports. Immediately after the trip, you will submit expense reports and follow-up with the headquarters team as needed to discuss any trip-related issues that require timely attention.

    • Ongoing training and teamwork. Between trips, you will be asked to do a limited amount of ongoing training and participate in trip leader team building (remotely/online). We try to keep this to a minimum but want to be transparent that there will be a bit of engagement between trips.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • You must be authorized to work in the United States and a well-established resident of New Orleans

    • Written and spoken fluency (or better) in English

    • You must own a computer and a smartphone and you’re comfortable/experienced with collaborating remotely with an international team

    • You must not own your own travel company or plan to own one in the future. You must not lead trips with any of Wild Terrains’ competitors. Our most successful trip leaders are leading vibrant careers in industries outside of or adjacent to travel and have flexibility to pause their regular work to lead trips.

    • While not required, hospitality experience is a plus

*Reliability is really important given the nature of our business. If you commit to leading a trip, you must be available the entire duration of the trip. A last-minute cancellation will result in immediate termination, and failure to be available for all days of trip will result in no payment.

    COMPENSATION

    • USD $1,000 for your training trip with a Wild Terrains team member.

    • USD $2,000 per successfully completed 4-day group trip after your training trip.

    PERKS

For every trip you lead, you’ll earn points toward a Wild Terrains trip to any of our other destinations (Argentina, Portugal, France, Mexico, Japan, Spain & more to come!)
