OAXACA ITINERARY
DAY ONE
Bienvenidas a Oaxaca mágico! 🌞 We’ll drop our luggage at Teresa Ramirez’s stunningly restored Casa Antonieta, before we make sure you’ve got the lay of the land and – most importantly – the food. Oaxaca is considered a culinary icon by pretty much every chef on the planet, so our first stop is an absolute must: the local mercado. We’ll taste everything from moles made with dozens of ingredients to banana leaf-wrapped tamales.
When we can’t possibly take another bite, we’ll meet up with Mafer Bretón – founder of Relato Nativo – for a plant medicine workshop that will connect you with the ancient rituals still practiced in Oaxaca today.
Meals included: lunch
DAY TWO
In case you missed the memo – you entered textile paradise the moment you stepped foot in Oaxaca! This morning we’ll visit the studio of Laya Antonio – founder of Origen Textil – for a crash course on natural dye and the importance of preserving these ancient techniques.
Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch together at one of our favorite women-owned restaurants in the city, and you’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to explore.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch
DAY THREE
Time to escape the city’s limits and travel to the powerful (yet often-overlooked) Zapotec ruins of Yagul. We’ll spend some time exploring this important archeological site, before visiting the mother-daughter team behind Desde La Eternidad, one of the only women-run mezcal distilleries in Oaxaca. In true Wild Terrains fashion, we’ll head straight to the source and enjoy a magical mezcal tasting and dinner party in the middle of the agave fields. Can you say dreamy?
Meals included: breakfast, dinner
DAY FOUR
The morning and early afternoon is yours to treasure hunt for Oaxaca’s legendary ceramics and textiles. We’ll point you in the direction of some of our favorite women-owned ventures, like: 1050 Grados (unique Oaxacan pottery), Xaquixe Studio (gorgeous handblown glassware), and Central Textile (because your suitcase can never be too full of textiles).
We’ll meet for an early dinner hosted by Oaxaca’s most talented young chef (and recent Michelin Star recipient)– Thalia Barrios García. Thalia has invited us to a traditional meal inspired by the cuisine of her hometown in the Oaxacan mountains. Don’t say we didn’t warn you: Thalia’s food is so delicious, the first bite brought our entire team to tears during our scouting trip.
Meals included: breakfast, dinner
DAY FIVE
We’ll say our goodbyes over breakfast at Casa Antonieta before parting ways. If you're planning to extend your stay in Mexico, we'll help you get to the right place (with some travel tips, of course!).
Meals included: breakfast
Please note this is a sample itinerary and some variations will happen between trips due to our partners schedules,

WHERE YOU’LL SLEEP
We’re sleeping in style at Casa Antonieta – a former convent and historic mansion converted into a stunning boutique hotel by Teresa Ramirez and her son, Helwig. The hotel sits on a quiet street only a few blocks from the main city square. Each of the 9 rooms is unique, featuring local artwork and luxury bath products. Our favorite perk: the plant-filled rooftop terrace overlooking the city – a perfect spot for a calm sunset cocktail after an adventurous day.

BEST TIME OF YEAR
TO VISIT
Anytime between October and mid-June.
A note related to responsible travel: Oaxaca becomes especially crowded during the Guelaguetza Festival and Día de Muertos – to the point where we do not believe it is responsible to organize trips here during this holiday. If you are interested in spending Día de Muertos in Mexico, we invite you to check out our Mexico City trips.
WEATHER
Outside of the rainy season (late-June through September), the weather is almost always pleasantly warm and sunny in Oaxaca. We suggest packing layers, as the evenings can be quite cool.
