Masako Nakagami
CERAMIST
KYOTO, JAPAN
Masako Nakagami was born in Kyoto, Japan. She aspired to be a potter when she was in elementary school and studied the basics of ceramics at Kyoto City Douda Art High School. She worked at the Kyoto University of Art and Design's correspondence education department as an assistant teacher. Masako moved to the UK in 2001, created her own works at The Chocolate Factory studio, and provided tableware for Zuma and Roka restaurants in London. She joined the East London Hidden Art Open Studio with Lucy Smith at her studio in Leytonstone.
After living in London for four years, Masako moved back to Kyoto and held solo and group exhibitions in Japan. She has been running pottery classes in her gallery for over 10 years, and her works are sought after by companies all over the world.
Besides being a ceramist, she cooks for guests using local ingredients such as game meats and home-grown vegetables. You can see her work here.
