REGINA MONTEs
OWNER, NIMA LOCAL HOUSE
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO
Regina is the warm, lovely owner of the Nima Local House, one of our favorite boutique hotels in Mexico City and where some of our Wild Terrains travelers stay during our Mexico City group trips.
Regina is a woman with an eye for impeccable details. She helped convert this historic mansion in the Roma Norte neighborhood into the stunning hotel it is today. Stay here a few nights and you’ll start to really notice the care she put into restoring the property, from the beautiful patterned wood floors to the plants thriving inside the atrium.

1. WHAT IS THE MOST INSPIRING PART ABOUT RUNNING A BOUTIQUE HOTEL?
I should say meeting new guests from different cultures, countries, etc… but to tell you the truth the most inspiring part is having an extended family. Working everyday with our “nimanees” (our “family”), getting to know them more each day, is what inspires me more and what makes me say, everything is worth it!
2. WHO STAYS AT NIMA? IN OTHER WORDS, HOW DO YOU GUESTS ADD TO THE ATMOSPHERE HERE?
Guests that just want to live and experience even the smallest details of life here in Mexico City. Our guests add LIFE to Nima’s atmosphere: laughter, happiness, relaxation, wellness, balance, and love.
3. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ATTRACTS PEOPLE TO MEXICO CITY? WHY NOW?
Our culture, our super delicious food, our landscapes, our diversity. I don’t say this just because I’m Mexican, but I truly think that Mexico is a super rich country in every way. But most of all, what attracts people is our hospitality!!! In Mexico, you receive a service and attention to detail never experienced before!
4. WHAT ABOUT THE CITY INSPIRES YOU SPECIFICALLY?
Our people, our diversity, our fight to make our country better everyday!
5. WHAT DO YOU FEEL MAKES LA COLONIA ROMA SUCH A SPECIAL NEIGHBORHOOD IN MEXICO CITY?
Wow!! So many things come to mind! Roma has been and always will be a neighborhood that has amazing restaurants, coffee shops, parks, stores, boutiques, galleries, and so much more… but also a beautiful community of conscious people. People, that aren’t just existing; they believe, fight, work, and sacrifice for different purposes, like for art, the environment, animals, and much more. Is just a lively and brilliant neighborhood.
6. WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO HOST AT NIMA? (LIVING OR DEAD!)
ANYONE that wants a very, very different experience, where they can feel “apapachados” (valued, cared for). But for me hosting Mr. Danny Meyer would be a great honor. He is my example to follow! I admire him so much, he is my teacher! What he has achieved in his restaurants is just amazing and unbelievable!
