TOUR OPTIONS

 

TOUR 1 - México City Art and History

Duration: 3 hours
Suggested time: 10am - 1pm
Days Available: Tuesday through Saturday 
Description: During this tour you will get a resume on the history of Mexico and Mexico City while walking the historic center - from the pre-hispanic time until the modern Mexico. We will start knowing about the Aztecs (Mexicas) on the ruins of Templo Mayor and their encounter with the Spanish. At the Zocalo square we will see the major changes in the city made by the time of the conquest by the Cathedral and the National Palace. The tour will walk by the main squares of the center seeing the European and Mexican architecture mixing together. At the Fine Arts Palace we will take a look at murals made by Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and others to understand their point of view on their art from the XX century. The tour will end with a walking by the Alameda Central, the oldest park in the Americas, and with another mural of Diego Rivera. By the end of the tour we expect to have resumed the history of this amazing city with the visual help of works of art and architecture.

The tour is mostly in open places, but we will go inside the cathedral, Fine Arts Palace and Museo Mural.

TOUR 2 - Modern Art in Mexico

Duration: 3 hours
Suggested time: 10am - 1pm
Days Available: Tuesday through Saturday 
Description: During this tour you will learn about the evolution of Mexican art from the 19th to 20th centuries. We will start at the Castle of Chapultepec to learn about its origin and see its collection of art and murals by Siqueiros and O’Gorman. At the Museum of Modern Art, we view their permanent collection featuring some of Mexico’s most prominent artists such as Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, etc. The tour will finish at the modern Tamayo Museum to discuss Rufino Tamayo’s works.

TOUR 3 - Frida Kahlo and Anahuacalli

Duration: 3 hours
Suggested time: 10:30 am - 1:30pm
Days Available: Tuesday through Saturday 
Description: During this tour we will visit the former house of Frida Kahlo, Casa Azul. The tour will begin with a leisurely conversation in Frida’s gardens where we will tell you the story of Frida’s life and discuss some of her most important works, as well as see her clothes. Next, we will visit the Anahuacalli Museum, an impressive building where Frida’s controversial and famous husband, Diego Rivera, planned to exhibit his collection of prehispanic sculptures.

TOUR 4 - Mexican Muralism (currently not available)

Duration: 3 hours
Suggested time: 10am - 1pm
Days Available: Tuesday through Saturday 
Description: During this tour you will get a crash course in the Mexican muralism movement. This movement that started at the beginning of the 20th Century, and it was an artistic and government project to paint the walls of important buildings to tell the story of Mexico didactically. This movement started after the Mexican Revolution to display a new wave of nationalism after intense military conflict. You will visit the most important buildings filled with murals from Mexico’s most famous first-generation muralists: Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco. The highlight of this tour is visiting Diego Rivera’s murals at the National Palace, which depicts the history of Mexico & Diego’s vision for Mexico’s future.

NATALIA ZERBATO

Although Natalia is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she has chosen Mexico as her home and place of research. Natalia has dedicated most of her adult life to studying the arts, fashion and the works of Frida Kahlo. In Mexico, she is broadening her education and studying Mexican art and the impacts it had in Mexican history. We partner with Natalia to lead special art tours in Mexico City.
